  • 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
  • 1 large egg (or 1 tbsp ground flaxseed + 3 tbsp water for vegan option)
  • 4 whole grain burger buns

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mash the drained black beans until mostly smooth but slightly chunky.
  2. Mix in the chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, cumin, paprika, and cilantro until well combined.
  3. Add the egg or flax egg and stir until fully incorporated.
  4. Shape the mixture into four burger-sized patties about 1-inch thick.
  5. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (375°F) and cook each patty for about 4-5 minutes on each side until crispy.
  6. Toast your burger buns on the grill during the last few minutes of cooking and assemble with desired toppings.
