Greek Chicken Gyros are a delightful blend of marinated chicken, fresh vegetables, and creamy tzatziki wrapped in warm pita bread. This Mediterranean-inspired dish is not only flavorful but also brings people together, making it perfect for any occasion. Whether you’re hosting a dinner party or enjoying a weeknight meal, these gyros will transport you to the sun-soaked shores of Greece with every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (approximately 1.5 lbs)
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 cucumber, shredded
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced
  • Optional: Crumbled feta cheese

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: Combine Greek yogurt, minced garlic, lemon juice, oregano, salt, pepper, and olive oil in a bowl. Add chicken breasts and marinate for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.
  2. Prepare the tzatziki: Shred cucumber and squeeze out excess moisture. Mix Greek yogurt with minced garlic, shredded cucumber, lemon juice, salt, and fresh dill or mint until smooth.
  3. Cook the chicken: Preheat grill pan or outdoor grill over medium-high heat. Grill chicken for about 6-7 minutes per side until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C). Let rest for five minutes before slicing.
  4. Assemble the gyros: Place slices of grilled chicken on warm pita bread and top with tomatoes, red onions, and tzatziki sauce. Add crumbled feta cheese if desired.
