  • 1 cup kunafa pastry (shredded phyllo dough)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt the butter and coat the kunafa pastry thoroughly.
  3. Press layers of buttered kunafa into muffin tins to form cups.
  4. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk, cornstarch, sugar, and vanilla extract until thickened.
  5. Fill each kunafa cup with the cream mixture and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Meanwhile, prepare the syrup by boiling water, additional sugar, and lemon juice in a pot.
  7. Once baked, drizzle warm syrup over each puff before serving.
