  • 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 8 oz fresh cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined; avoid overworking the mixture.
  2. Shape into four patties (¾ inch thick) and place on parchment paper.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned.
  4. Set patties aside and add sliced mushrooms and remaining onions to the skillet; sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  5. Pour in beef broth, soy sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper; whisk to combine while scraping brown bits from the pan.
  6. Return patties to the skillet and simmer in gravy on low heat for an additional 5 minutes.
